The kick-off meeting of the VIETMUS project (VIETnam Music Universities Spurring) took place on 11-12 September at the Conservatorio di Musica Alessandro Scarlatti in Palermo, gathering project partners from Italy, Turkey and Belgium, as well as representatives from Vietnamese universities who form part of the consortium.
The agenda included a wrap-up of the research in international models and best practices conducted in the last months, a presentation of the Learning Management System to be developed and a brainstorming on constructing a MOOC for students. Barbara Gessler, Head of Unit International Capacity Building at the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) joined the project partners in Palermo and welcomed them with a short presentation about music and music education as part of the EU’s policy in favour of capacity building in the area of creative industries, “Music Moves Europe (MME)”.
The AEC, as coordinator of the dissemination and exploitation activities, presented the visual identity of the project, as well as the Dissemination, Exploitation and Communication Plan (DECP) to be implemented throughout the project lifespan. In addition, a draft project website was presented for the project partners to comment upon and share their feedback. The meeting ended with study visits for Vietnamese partners which included activities at the University of Palermo – Department of Engineering, the Teatro Massimo and the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa.
The VIETMUS project at a glance
VIETMUS, co-funded by the European Union, aims to promote digital transformation and to create a new digital capacity in teaching and performing in the Vietnamese Higher Music Education (HME) landscape. It will do so by:
encouraging an easy and constant access to IT-based new practices
creating a more sustainable and inclusive teaching system
coping with the needs and challenges that emerged by the Covid outbreak
fostering employability capacity in HME institutions’ graduates
VIETMUS will contribute to strengthening key competencies, in particular innovative transdisciplinary skills able to connect music, performance, business, internationalisation, social impact and technology. Moreover, the project will strengthen sustainable future entrepreneurship opportunities through digital capacities, giving music graduates new employment possibilities in the Cultural and Creative sector.
